Warning Description: Winter Storm Warning

Warning Date: 3:48 am PST on January 20, 2012

WarningSum:...Winter Storm Warning Remains In Effect From 7 Pm This Evening
To 10 Am Pst Saturday Above 7500 Feet...

Warning Message:A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and gusty winds above 7500
feet remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to 10 am PST
Saturday.
* Timing: snow will increase late this afternoon and continue
  through Saturday morning. Heavy snowfall rates in excess of 2
  inches per hour are possible.
* Total snow accumulations: 2 feet or more above 7500 feet...
  with 5 to 10 inches above 6500 feet. 
* Winds: southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph in the
  evening decreasing to southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55
  mph after midnight. Ridge gusts in the Sierra near 125 mph.
* Snow levels: 8500 feet lowering to valley floors Saturday 
  morning.
* Impacts: slick conditions with poor visibility and chain 
  restrictions over the passes of Highway 395.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly during winter storms...slow
down and allow extra time when traveling.  Carry tire chains...

Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a High Wind
Warning...which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM
PST this evening. 
* Timing: strong gusty winds will develop by late afternoon. The
  strongest winds are likely from 5 PM through 9 PM.
* Winds:southwest winds increasing to 20 to 35 mph with gusts up
  to 70 mph.
* Impacts: motorists in high profile vehicles can expect difficult
  driving conditions with strong cross winds across Highway 395.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Damage to trees...power lines and property is likely with winds
of this magnitude.  Driving will become hazardous for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution and remain alert for sudden
gusts or cross winds.
